Land Girls (3-DVD Set)
In June 1939 with the prospect of war looming the government realised
that increasing the amount of food grown here would be vital to the war
effort. To do this, more help would be needed on the farms and so the
Women’s Land Army was formed. Although a majority of the Land Girls already lived in the countryside, more than a third came from London
and the industrial cities of the north of England, and had no experience of farming at all which meant that many of the traditional farmers were not very keen on the idea.
The popular, award-winning BBC drama Land Girls follows
the lives and loves of four very different girls away from home
during the Second World War all doing their bit for Britain,
as they arrive at the Hoxley Estate to begin their new working
lives at the Pasture Farm owned by Frederick Finch and the
opulent manor occupied by Lord and Lady Hoxley.
