We have teamed up with Britain On Film and are delighted to present a new series of nostalgic DVDs — The Way We Were. They combine unique cine films from various regions, old photos and stories as well as recollections of former residents to paint a fascinating picture of life in a bygone era.
Wirral: This dvd provides an unrivaled insight into life in the district from the early 1900s to the 1970’s. Among the many nostalgic scenes from the past, we see crowded ferries at Seacombe, rowing boats on Raby Mere; sailing at West Kirby; and even swimming in the Manchester Ship Canal at Ellesmere Port. On a more serious note, the DVD shows many aspects of local life during World War 2, including supplying gas masks in Wallasey; evacuation of local children; Home Guard exercises; and the devastation caused by air raids in Birkenhead and Wallasey. Last but not least, the DVD captures on film some of the memorable events of the 20th Century, among them the building of Bromborough Dock; the New Brighton Tower fire; the construction and opening of the two Mersey tunnels; and the demolition of two notorious Birkenhead tower blocks.
